How to Take Backup and Restore Data in BUSY

A daily backup is the cheapest insurance for your accounts. BUSY can back up on its own on a schedule, to a local drive or to Google Drive. The steps below follow BUSY's own help on busy.in.

Automatic backup to a local drive (BUSYAgent)

1. Install BUSYAgent

   Download and install BUSYAgent from the Company menu on the computer where BUSY is installed. Scheduled backups through BUSYAgent need an active BLS.

2. General configuration

   Open BUSYAgent, pick the database type (Access or MS SQL) and give the data folder or SQL server details. You can also turn on backup alerts by e-mail.

3. Backup configuration

   Switch on local drive backup, give the backup folder, the folder name and the companies to back up.

4. Backup schedule

   Choose the days, the financial year and the time of the backup.

Backup to Google Drive

Go to Administration > Configuration > Features and Options > General, switch on the Google Drive option, give the e-mail ID to link and set the backup schedule.

Restore a backup

1. Company > Restore Data

   Give the folder that holds the backup files.

2. Overwrite: No

   If the same company already exists, keep Overwrite = No. BUSY then restores it as a new company instead of replacing the one you have.

3. Check before you work

   Open the restored company and check the trial balance and the last few vouchers.

Good habits

• Keep one backup outside the office PC (pen drive or Google Drive)
• Take a manual backup before a BUSY update, a new financial year or any bulk change
• Test-restore once a month on another PC so you know the backup works

Restored company not opening?
