How to Learn BUSY Accounting Software: A 30-Day Plan From Basics to GST

BUSY अकाउंटिंग सॉफ्टवेयर कैसे सीखें: बेसिक से GST तक 30 दिन का प्लान

Learn BUSY accounting software step by step: a 30-day plan for students, accountants and business owners, practice company, shortcut keys, free learning resources and training.

BUSY is one of India's most used GST accounting and billing programs among traders, distributors and manufacturers, and many accountant job posts ask for it. The good news: if you know basic accounting (debit, credit, ledger, GST), you can do daily BUSY work in about two weeks and handle GST and inventory confidently in a month. If you are new to accounting too, give it a little longer and learn both together.

This plan is the order we use when we train office staff of our BUSY clients. (Prefer Hindi? Read BUSY software kaise sikhe.)

Before you start

  • Get BUSY on a PC: BUSY offers a free trial on busy.in, and BUSY Magic has a free Express plan. If your office already uses BUSY, ask for a separate practice company on it. Never practise in the live company.
  • Create a practice company with the current financial year, a GSTIN-style state setting and inventory on. Everything below is done in this company.
  • Keep real-looking papers ready: 10 sale bills, 10 purchase bills, a bank statement page and a few expense vouchers. Entering real-looking papers teaches more than reading menus.
  • Learn to use the keyboard: BUSY is built for it. Keep the BUSY shortcut keys list open.

The 30-day plan

DaysLearnPractice until you can
1-3Company creation, financial year, configuration (features and options), user loginCreate a company and switch inventory and GST options on and off
4-6Account masters: groups, ledgers for parties, bank, cash, expenses, duties and taxes; opening balancesOpen 20 ledgers with correct group, GSTIN and state
7-9Item masters: units, item groups, HSN and GST rate, opening stockOpen 15 items with HSN and rate, and check the stock report
10-13Sale and purchase vouchers, sale and purchase returns, credit and debit notesEnter a month of bills without the mouse, and print an invoice
14-16Receipt, payment, journal, contra; bill-by-bill outstanding; bank reconciliationMatch a bank statement and show a party's pending bills
17-19Reports: ledger, day book, trial balance, profit and loss, balance sheet, stock, outstandingFind any entry from a report and correct it
20-23GST: GST summary, GSTR-1, GSTR-3B, RCM, GSTR-2B matchingPrepare GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B of the practice month and explain each figure
24-26E-invoice and e-way bill settings, TDS, invoice print formatExplain how an e-invoice is made from a sale voucher
27-28Backup and restore, users and rights, new financial yearTake a backup, restore it as a copy and carry balances forward
29-30Revision: enter one full month from papers and close itFinish a month with trial balance, GST returns and stock all agreeing

Spend 1 to 2 hours a day. If a step takes longer, stay on it; GST and inventory need more time than the rest.

After the basics: skills employers look for

Free resources to learn from

  • Inside BUSY: press F1 for the user manual; the Help menu has feature tutorials and videos.
  • busy.in: FAQs, accounting, inventory, TDS and GST guides, and webinars (live and recorded).
  • BUSY's YouTube channel and our YouTube channel for Hindi videos.
  • Our guides: practical BUSY and GST articles written from real support work.

Mistakes that slow learners down

  • Practising in the live company. One wrong entry in real books costs more than a day of learning.
  • Learning menus without accounting. If you do not know why an entry is debit or credit, BUSY cannot tell you.
  • Using the mouse for everything. Shortcut keys make you two to three times faster, and offices notice.
  • Skipping GST reports. Most accountant interviews ask how GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B are prepared and checked.
  • Not checking the trial balance daily. It is the quickest way to catch your own mistakes.

FAQ

How long does it take to learn BUSY software?

With basic accounting knowledge and 1 to 2 hours of practice a day, daily entries take about two weeks and GST and inventory about a month. Without accounting knowledge, allow longer and learn accounting alongside.

Can I learn BUSY for free?

Yes. BUSY has a free trial on busy.in and a free Express plan in BUSY Magic, plus the F1 manual, Help menu tutorials, webinars and YouTube videos. Practise in a separate practice company.

Is BUSY easier than Tally?

Both are keyboard-driven and follow the same accounting. Many users find BUSY's voucher screens and GST reports simple once the shortcut keys are learnt. See our <a href="/guides/tally-vs-busy/">Tally vs BUSY</a> guide.

Which BUSY topics are asked in accountant interviews?

Ledger and item creation, sale and purchase entry with GST, receipts and payments, bank reconciliation, outstanding reports, GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B, and how to take a backup.
